Citizen Eco Drive Dome - Super Cool Super Expensive

Citizen Eco Drive Dome - photograph Citizen Japan
Back in 2009, Citizen unveiled some very stylistic watch prototypes at the Basel Watch Fair. The one that caught my eye was the “Dome” model; a big quirky futuristic looking watch which looked like it’d be loads of fun to wear.
At this year’s Basel event, Citizen announced that the “Dome” would be put into limited production. There would be 250 watches in black (BY0039-00E) and 250 in white. (BY0030-04E) I was thrilled to hear the news, but my enthusiasm waned when I saw the 262,500 yen price tag.
The white watch pictured above features a case which is coated with multiple layers of pearl paint. The result apparently produces a case with depth and sparkle. The black cased watch features the newest DLC coating techniques.
With it’s unique finish and design, the 49mm titanium case probably gives this watch a lot of wrist presence. Nothing in the specs I’ve read indicate that there is anything special about the movement. The only thing I don’t like about the Dome is the price which unfortunately will probably stop me from sporting one on my wrist.
Here are a couple more Citizen Japan promotional shots.

Hi Pete,
The white version reminds me of “Star Wars.”

Bryan, you and I think very much alike. I got the EXACT same vibe.
