Vintage Seiko Desk Clock SB-3 from 1980s
Posted by: b_andersen
During the 1980s Seiko was almost completely invested in quartz technology, and featured it in advertising campaigns. This vintage desk clock is an example. It proudly displays a Seiko Quartz sticker on the crystal, and a small Seiko Quartz yin-yang logo on the dial at 6′clock.
Seiko model SB-3 was made in Japan, and is powered by a single AA battery. With the back cover taken off, the sound of the quartz movement is good. It has a regular, precise sound, not tinny or uneven.

When looked at straight on (see pictures below), it’s designed to appear to be under a glass dome. The clock is actually fixed to a single piece of thick acrylic which makes it easy to move around. It’s both an attractive and functional design.

There’s no information about this desk clock online. It’s pretty much a forgotten consumer model from the Mary Lou Retton era. It has plastic components, but with good build quality. And like most Seiko quartz timepieces, even after 25 years it’s performing accurately and looking good doing it.

Beautiful watch! Is the strap long enough? Lug width?
