Seiko Chronograph SNAA45

One of Seiko and Citizen’s strong points is they sometimes take classical designs by European brands and put a twist on them. I’m always on the lookout for Omega Speedmaster and Tudor chronograph homages, and I recently found both in Seiko models SNAA45P1 and SNAA41P1.

Both watches come with Seiko Quartz movement 7T62. It’s a 60-minute chronograph with a dual time/alarm subdial at 6 o’clock. This is the first time I’ve owned a Seiko with this movement, and I like it for a many reasons.

The subdial can be set to a different timezone. In the pictures above and below, I have the main time set to Pacific Time Zone (PST) and the time in the subdial set to Japan time.

The clock at my office is set 4 minutes fast. So recently I set the subdial  to PST +4 minutes (see picture below). I use the chronograph subdial at 12 o’clock to time 15-minute work coffee breaks.

Although I like the solid steel bracelet on this watch and wore it on metal for a couple weeks, I’m fond of leather straps. I ordered an OEM one from Wee Wah Lee at Chronograph.com and it arrived yesterday.

The strap’s 12mm wide lug tab is angled so it attaches seemlessly. It’s a cool strap, and has a heavy-duty signed buckle. Thanks Wee Wah!

This is a large chronograph with a solid feeling. I think it’s a 2007 model and no longer in production, although Chronograph.com still has SNAA41 in stock. Because I liked SNAA45 so much, I’ve also ordered SNAA41 too.

    Hey Pete or Bryan:
I am not sure who wrote this article because the
    author is not listed.

Thank you for this article and the photos.
These photos are excellent and allow the view to
see the beauty of this watch.

Furthermore, by selecting one of the many watches
Seiko has made, and focusing on it, you bring
back our awareness of the beauty of the design,
the tremendous craftsmanship, and the huge value
    for money that Seiko offers.

This allows the average person the ability to
own one of these fine watches without going broke.

As you say, Seiko has added a special twist to
the watch, the fact that it is even more accurate
than the original as it is quartz, and the fact
that there is a second watch in it, that works
as an alarm clock and a second time zone watch.

    Thank you again.

    Hi Bryan,

I enjoyed seeing your new chronograph and am also looking forward to pics of the white one. The number of 7T based chronographs that Seiko has released is astounding to me. I know that whenever I stop by a Seiko outlet, I see dozens of different 7T based Seikos and Pulsars each one unique and different. Some I like, some are very pedestrian at best.

It’s the pushers on yours that interests me. Not only do they look comfortable and fuctional, but the contrast in color vs. the case is nice.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Hi diverwatch & Petew,

Thanks for your feedback. These watches, SNAA45P1 and SNAA41P1, are very nice. They are very similar in quality and feel to Seiko Spirit Mechanicals. I’ll post more pictures of both in future.

    Regards,

    Bryan

[…] SNAA41 Seiko Chronograph arrived on Saturday, and I’m glad it did. I wrote about the black-dialed version, SNAA45 Seiko Chronograph, a few weeks back. Like Lee® with his Alba Riki Watanabe Automatic, after the black-dialed one arrived, of course I had to have the white-dialed one too. […]

    Dear Bryan,

Have you ever seen the SNAA 49. It is very similar to your SNAA 45, but it originally comes along with leather strap. I’d like to ask your sugestion whether I should buy the SNAA 41, 45, or 49?

    Cheers…

    Hi Wishus,

I’m not sure I can give advice on this, it’s a rather personal preference. I like the black best with white accents (SNAA45), but SNAA41 is nice too. I’ve not seen SNAA49 in person (click here), but it looks like a winner as well (it has yellow accents, right?).

Good luck with your choice, and let us know when yours arrives!

    Regards,

    Bryan

    Hi Bryan,

Thank you for your response. Finally, I decided to take SNAA 49 with the yellow accents as you’ve mentioned indeed. Yes, they do. They have the yellow ones on chrono hand, subdials hands on alarm and minute.

It is surely perfect with the leather strap as you do with your own SNAA 45, but I’d like to have the bracelete for another preference. Is it availabe?

    Regards,

    Wishnu
