GRAND SEIKO FAIR — July 2–15 at Takashimaya Department Store in Nagoya

A Grand Seiko Fair will take place from Wednesday, July 2 through Tuesday, July 15 at Takashimaya Department Store in Nagoya, Japan. The 13-floor-high department store is part of the Nagoya Japan Railway Train Station complex (which has restaurants, beauty salons and barber shops at the top on the 51st floor).

The Takashimaya Watch & Clock Department is located on the 10th floor. Also found on the 10th floor are the store’s kimono shop and the jewelry department, along with an art gallery and exhibition hall. A special event is planned there on Saturday, July 5.

From 2 p.m., and again at 4 p.m., Mr. Junya Kamijyo (pictured below) from Seiko Epson Company’s “Shinshu Toki-no Takumi Kobo” (Horological Craftsmanship Section) will demonstrate how Grand Seiko Spring Drive watch movements are assembled. You may recognize Kamijyo-san’s picture from Seiko Japan videos that feature the Grand Seiko watchmaking section.

    I’d love to go! Got my first Japan market Seiko, what a great timepiece. Excellent fit & finish, quality all they way and the classic Euro/Swiss Industrial/bauhaus look. The four Japanese mfrs. all have fantastic watches there. One ding, lenght of straps & bands..luckily I have small wrists, took only 1 link out! For those w/ beefier wrists???? I haven’t been to Japan since the 1970’s great place love to go.

    Hi Dr. Robert,

    I’d also like to go to the Nagoya Watch Fair, particularly on Saturday July 5 when Kamijyo-san demonstrates assembling Spring Drive movements. How many chances are there to see a master watchmaker from Seiko’s Horological Craftsmanship Section at work? Probably just a handful of times per year, and possibly at Basel… Glad to hear you like your new Seiko!
