The Gulfman Triple Crown: Cheap Fun — Quick Review
In contrast to my last post about the ultra high end MRG Casios, this time I’ll talk about a low cost model. The Triple Crown DW-9100 Gulfman is proof that you don’t need to spend big bucks on a limited edition G-Shock. For under $100.00, one gets a unique limited production watch with some nice features that you don’t see on most G’s.
Many of the unique Gulfman features that Bryan mentioned in his GW-9100 article are shared with this lower priced non Atomic/Solar model. You get neat features like titanium screws, a titanium caseback and a few other nice touches that I’ll point out.
In addition to the metallic color, my favorite design feature on this Gulfman is the little ridges added to the blue seconds indicator window. Together with the bold lines, color, and angles of the case, it gives this watch an art deco vibe.
Look at the added inner frame or bezel moulding on the panel. Has Casio done this before on a G-Shock?
For some reason, caseback engravings on G-Shocks are often faint and weakly engraved. Not so with the Gulfman. The imprint is crisp and legible. Check out the stepped caseback design.
The metal bezel ring is blacked out on this Gulfman.

The double illuminater system means that both the display and inner bezel light up at the push of a button.
Although the color understandably won’t be for everyone, I think this Gulfman is an excellent example of an inexpensive and interesting limited production G-Shock. The supplies of this one are dwindling now so if you want one act quick. Who knows, it could be worth more in another few months.

Hi Petew,
I wish Casio had choosen another color for this TC Gulfman. I am very happy with the G-9100 model and I hope it will com out in different colors in the future. I’m going for an Atomic one to wear now. I’m still dubbbing which to take. The white ICERC or the basic black. They are both so nice. By the way, is the illumination of the main display really that blue?
Kind regards,
Sjors

Hi Sjors,
There is always the dark blue version of the Gulfman. The illumination of the main display is very blue and the bezel lights up in an orange color more vivid than what you see in the picture.
Thanks for reading!

Hello Petew,
I was looking at the EL backlight of your T Gulfman again. Suddenly I noticed this is the first TC model I know that does not have the Triple Crown logo (as shown on the watchband and the back of the watch) in it’s EL light.
B.T.W. I ordered a 2nd white I.C.E.R.C. GULFMAN this weekend and got a message from Seiya San that it is on it’s way.
Kind regards,
Sjors

Sjors, you have a great eye. I never thought about that, but you are correct, there is no logo backlight on this one. I have another Casio TC model coming this week, I’ll look to see if it has a logo.
