Casio Japan advertises G-Shocks domestically with flashy youth-oriented marketing campaigns. Designers create ads with bright, exciting, and vivid colors. Ones that echo 1960s styles. Casio’s graphic artists also like dark tones suggestive of walking through an Asian city at night. G-Shocks are promoted differently in North America.

In the USA, many associate G-Shocks with activities like hunting and fishing. With moderate price points, and features like 200-meter water resistance, backlights, alarms, and timers, most Americans consider G-Shocks practical rather than fashionable. They are popular with many in the military. Discount stores like Walmart, and Kmart, are good places to find them in the USA.

Fashionable boutiques sell G-Shocks in Japan, including a new Casio virtual store. It’s called G-BOX, and uses 3-D Flash animation technology to give online customers the feeling of being in a boutique, picking up a G-Shock, and looking at it from different angles. The experience reminds me of shopping for G-Shocks in real stores the heart of cities like Tokyo and Osaka. Virtual shopping is bound to become even more realistic, and more commonplace, in the near future. Hope you find this of interest.

Along with splashy, urban themes, Japanese G-Shocks are associated with extreme sports such as snowboarding, skateboarding, BMX freestyle, and freestyle motocross. Graffiti art and hip-hop music are also themes used to promote G-Shocks in Japan.
